Save the date, Portman’s first annual Great Skate will be held Saturday, December 17 from 3-6 p.m. at Portman Community Center. Everyone in the Duluth community is welcome to attend this outdoor event as we kick off the outdoor hockey season and celebrate our youth hockey players.
This event will also serve as the Association’s largest fundraiser of the year. In the weeks leading up to the Great Skate, current Portman players, plus squirts who previously played at Portman, are encouraged to solicit donations from their family and friends to participate in several fun challenges, including a laps contest, competition for fastest lap skated, most goals on net in 0:30 seconds, parents vs. kids race, and limbo. Best of all, 100% of the event’s proceeds will benefit Portman Hockey and allow us to cover costs associated with equipment, facilities, and jamborees/tournaments. They skate, we all win!
There will be food available for purchase, a silent auction, an appearance from UMD’s Champ, and the debut of our brand-new Zamboni, sponsored by Sonju Two Harbors. Stay tuned for more Great Skate details on our website and Facebook pages. For more guidance on how to collect donations and other FAQs, please see this helpful document.

Registration is now open for the 2022 - 2023 Portman hockey season. Please read about the process carefully on the DAHA website and get registered at https://www.duluthhockey.com/season-registration.
Portman will offer the following levels (you will select the appropriate level during registration):
*Mini-mite/6U (NEW in 2022): For any player who is new to hockey and was born before June 1, 2018. This is the required level for any player who will not yet be in kindergarten and has not already completed a year of organized hockey. This is also an option for any first year player who was born on or after June 1st, 2015, regardless of grade.
*Mite 1/8U (born on or after June 1st, 2013): For any player who has played at least a year of organized hockey or a player who will be in at least kindergarten. Mite 1s should already be comfortable skating and have some basic hockey knowledge. This is the typical level for kindergarteners and first graders.
*Mite 2/8U (born on or after June 1st, 2013): For players who have played a couple years of Mite 1s and have advanced their hockey skills. This is the typical level for second and third graders.
*Please note that depending on your player's age, you may need to select "Player Move Up" during registration in order to register for Mite 1s or 2s.
Mite 1s and Mite 2s will be starting on October 23rd. The Mini-mite season will begin after the last DAHA Learn to Skate session (mid-December).
We are excited to welcome everyone back to Portman this winter! Please email portmanbruins@gmail.com if you have any questions pertaining to our local rink. For registration issues, please contact DAHA directly.
The kids often tell us some of their best Portman memories are those spent rink ratting with their friends down at the rinks. Keep track of your child's hours spent rink ratting, or ask your older kids to track their own hours. We will email everyone once a month to collect hours, and the kids can earn prizes at the end of the season for their rink rat hours. All of our rink ratters will receive a Portman Rink Rat T-shirt.
